Paint is incredibly hard to get to stick to chrome.. scuff the hell out of it and primer it good. Goodluck though!

I dont suggest painting chrome. All-time option is to get a paintable bumber.. just if funds dont allow it.. grind the piss out of it(if youre using bedliner, grind marks shouldnt exist an result as it SHOULD fill them in), heavy build primer, Bedliner or paint.. if youre painting it y'all cant use a grinder and grinding disk.. your all-time bet is 320 on a DA Sander. Paint does non hide imperfections, it MAGNIFIES them.

And is your truck black? if non, just buy the blackness 'paintable' bumber and leave it the way it comes. this is what comes factory on the trucks that come w.o painted or chrome bumbers. but if your truck is black, id suggest buying it and if yous cant afford to get it painted right away, save upwardly.. the unpainted bumber however looks practiced on a black truck if its not colormatched.

i want to buy a new bumper too..blackness
  10. ...spray painted my chrome bumper flat black awhile ago and it still looks skilful. Didn't do whatever major sanding. Just fabricated certain it was clean, sprayed about 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of apartment black. And so far its fine..beside it being dirty from not washing it.

yeah I was because just buying the paintable bumper and leaving it since I've got the BSP paint going so it wouldnt await that bad and later could have it color matched if I really wanted to.

Hey RLDTACO I havnt looked into information technology to much merely how much does that black bumper from the dealer unremarkably run?

Dealer couldn't order colormatched bumper, then I ordered base black bumper and will have information technology painted. The finish on the black bumper looks great by itself.

I did this aforementioned thing, bought a new unpainted bumper for about $175, had it colour-matched at a shop, near $200, then sold my original chrome bumper locally for $225. So later on all was said and done, cost well-nigh $150. If yous have some pigment skills to color match the blackness bumper yourself, could actually come out a few bucks ahead.

I'm non good at painting so a shop that does work for dealer is going to paint information technology. They want $200 to cease up. I plan to sell my chrome bumper when its all done.
  15. I wrapped mine with flat black vinyl. Didn't desire to mess with the pigment. I've only had information technology on the bumper for a few months then we'll meet how it holds up.

My girlfriend utilise to work for ppg automotive and she said that you lot could try sanding it but somewhen the paint volition fleck off. Yous might go a couple of years out of it but it wont be permanent. She said the best thing to do is strip the bumper, prime and paint if your looking for a long lasting end. Skillful luck with any road you take!
